A lélegzeted is eláll attól, amit a testével művel a túlsúlyos jógaoktató

Jessamyn Stanley igazi Instagram-sztárrá vált, pedig nem könnyen vette rá magát, hogy megmutassa a nagyvilágnak, mire képes a testével. A túlsúlyos jógaoktató képeitől a lélegzeted is eláll.

It is hard to be confident in yourself. Social media makes it look easy and sometimes even glamorous, but it’s not. My struggle towards self-confidence and self-love is constantly evolving. In my experience, self-hate doesn’t miraculously go away. It takes work. Showing up for that work is what’s most important. So every day, I come back to the drawing board. I wipe away yesterday’s actions and try to release both the good and the bad emotions. I try to be compassionate towards myself. I try to show myself love instead of hate. It is hard. I was not trained to love myself. I’m not good at it. And I don’t live in a world that wants me to love myself. But this work isn’t about a hashtag or a movement- it’s about survival. I must love myself in order to survive. That’s the goal. Everything else is just extra. There are too many of us that are afraid to exercise during our monthly cycle. I’m always asked what yoga poses are “ok” to practice on your period, and my response is always something like “what poses AREN’T ok to practice?” Sure, there are some shapes your body might not want/need to make while your uterus is shedding. But yoga is about coming into a true connection with your body and what better time to do so than when you’re in the ultimate state of feminine awakening? Don’t avoid practicing poses during your cycle – listen to your body and find your own flow! @ubykotex is dedicated to releasing the stigmas of periods + fitness- share YOUR story using the #FindYourFitness hashtag and get a free sample of New U by Kotex® FITNESS* tampons, pads and liners with the link in my profile! #ad #FindYourFITNESS

I've received a ton of questions re: which of my @codyapp classes are recommended for different levels of practitioners & since there's a 30% off ALL @codyapp plans sale going on RIGHT NOW I thought it'd be a good idea to give y'all my personal recommendations. And of course these recommendations are literally coming the day after I was talking shit about capitalism. Smdh, Jessamyn. Yeah, the timing's a lil awkward but today's the last day of the @codyapp sale (????????) SOOOO. But yeah, I'm a walking contradiction- good thing I'm a yoga teacher & not a saint. ANYWAY, if you're trying to decide which plan to get for yourself/your mom/your play cousin/your coworker who keeps saying they “need to get into yoga”- Practitioner #1 (“I've never practiced yoga before.”/”I'm scared to go to a yoga studio.”/”Bitch, what am I supposed to do with this mat?”): Try “Beginner Yoga For EveryBody” & follow it up with “EveryBody Yoga Classes”. Practitioner #2 (“I've never practiced yoga before.”/”I'm scared to go to a yoga studio.”/”I tried yoga once or twice and want to get back into it.”)- Try “Begin to EmBody Yoga” w/ @nolatrees. I'd recommend springing for the “EmBody Yoga” bundle because then you'll get access to several different plans. Practitioner #3 (“I want to practice yoga but bitch I'm broke & can't afford to spend all this damn $$ on online yoga classes right now.”)- Try “Bare Your Soul, Find Your Flow”- it's like an amuse bouche for the other plans. Practitioner #4 (“I've tried yoga once or twice but wtf is up with #downwardfacingdog and why is #chaturanga THE WORST?”)- Try “Yoga Fundamentals Workshop” w/ @nolatrees Practitioner #5 (“I'm ready to get my ass kicked & IDGAF if I've never tried yoga before- let's do this shit.”)- Try “EveryBody Yoga” Parts I & II Practitioner #6 (“I want to work on some more advanced poses like #crowpose, #splits, and #headstands without feeling too embarrassed to fall down or fart in front of strangers.”)- Try “Get Loud”. Today's the last day for 30% off all plans- click the link above to snatch 'em up! Throwback to baby's 1st @codyapp shoot w/ @getjeffreid & @paosanchezmedia

Seems like most of my friends over the age of 30 have hit me up today to say they heard me on @npr this morning so I felt like I should probably mention it on here. I'm on @hereandnowradio in the 12:20pm EDT segment, portions of which were recorded live at my @bplboston book tour stop- check it out if you're a public radio nerd like yours truly. Also, this picture is a throwback to the spring @beccacosmetics desert getaway when I couldn't decide which bikini to wear. I almost posted this on Bikini day but then I was like “nahhhh I'm good on Instagram today.” Periodic social media blackouts are my self-care- mark my words, this shit is going to eat us all. This summer is all about family, friends, yoga, repeat. Unrelated, I wish I was trying to decide between bikinis today instead of conquering this never ending pile of bookkeeping but there ain't no rest for the wicked so I'm just going to count my blessings, be glad I'm self-employed, and enjoy this @sza / @sleater_kinney mix that's taking the edge off. Thanks to all of you being really enthusiastic about #everybodyyoga, I've received a lot of exceedingly generous press lately. But real talk, if I individually shouted out every media outlet that has shown me love, I would probably blow chunks all over my computer from verbal masturbation fatigue. That being said, I'm REALLY FUCKING HONORED to be included in @fastcompany's 100 Most Creative People in Business issue- thanks for validating a career path that totally goes against the advice of every authority figure in my life. In fact, I reallllllly want to insert a few petty as fuck emojis toward some of my undergrad and grad professors but yoga is making me shut my ass up soooo ANYWAY the link to the profile is on my Facebook page- check it out if you're into that kinda thing ???? Totally unrelated, I'm teaching a retreat at @1440multiversity in August AND I'll be at Hawaii Yoga Festival at @kalanioceanside in October- see you there? “How was your book tour, Jessamyn?” Well, it wasn't just one thing and there's no way for me to actually describe it. I wrote about a few things that stuck out on my tumblr- link is in the header above. Here are a few selections: 2. In Athens, GA, I taught a yoga class at @centercityballet and seeing the ballet students before my class reminded me of when I was the fattest kid in my dance class and our costumes almost always involved midriff baring and I was so self-conscious of my chubby belly that I would pull my hip huggin spandex pants up to my belly button and I had a perpetual spandex camel toe. 5. During my tour stop in Boulder, CO, I stayed at this insanely cool Denver hotel called @theartahotel. I was busy as shit so I barely got to spend any time there, but it was a very cool hotel and y’all should stay there if you’re in Denver. 6. In Chicago, I did back to back presentations at a high school in the ‘burbs. Literally every kid in those presentations reminded me of high school Jessamyn. Many of y’all seemed afraid to ask questions during the Q&A which made perfect sense because adults do the same goddamn thing. Most human beings are afraid of each other and nowhere is that made more vivid than the American high school system. 9. Darien, CT. has one of the bougiest and most beautiful libraries I’ve ever seen. Where I was reminded that library science is actually social justice and librarians are out in these streets for real. I have more to say but it’ll come out when it’s time. Every city had POC who verbalized a feeling of complete isolation. I see you. As a POC who operates in a very white world, I have to admit- our shared sense of isolation reads like a victory flag. It’s a sign that assimilation isn’t working and we are resisting. I am happy to be in the struggle with you. The rest is on my tumblr, link above- see you tomorrow at @rva_library MAIN BRANCH at 2pm, Richmond ???????? ???? by @bynadiaaboulhosn

Note to self: come hell or high water, resist falling prey to the unadulterated self-obsession that's a natural by-product of weirdly niche social media attention. For the sake of all things holy, this must remain one of my primary goals. For example, I can't tell you how many times interviewers have asked me to regale them with the “most exciting/inspiring feedback I've ever received” on social media. They always seem so excited to ask this question, no doubt expecting me to rattle off at the mouth about how “inspirational” I am. But like…..what the actual fuck. Who would say some shit like that? Typically, I end up unintentionally throwing shade on the person who asked the question bc….well frankly, what kind of an asshole gloats about kind words from strangers? To be honest, deepening my yoga practice at this stage in my professional career is fucking wild. I mean, ultimately, isn't yoga all about renouncing the ego and stepping away from narcissism? But certain aspects of the commercial yoga world basically require ego and narcissism. I mean, that's an effing catch-22 if I've ever heard of one. But I couldn't have asked for a better way to mentally explore the complexities of capitalism. Especially when it's focused on the intersection of capitalism and yoga. And ESPECIALLY when my fat ass is sitting smack dab on top of that intersection. Cleveland, OH! Dallas, TX! Houston, TX! Athens, GA- I'll be in all of these cities within the next week! I'm pretty sure the all-levels yoga classes are sold out in Dallas and Athens, but there may still be space in the Dallas, TX “teachers only” class on Saturday- and even if you're not a teacher, it'll still be a sweaty ass good time ????????????????????????. Info about all upcoming events can be found on JessamynStanley.com/tour! Unrelated, shout out to @fastcompany bc they named yours truly as one of their 100 most creative people in business. And yes, bitch- I KNOW I was just talking about the perils of narcissism but life is full of contradictions and you better believe ya girl was feeling herself when this news was announced. I can't help it, god ain't done with me yet. ????

My strength doesn't come solely from yoga. And much as I appreciate the spoils of industry and capitalism, I don't think humans are supposed to exist in boxes. We're meant to frolic among the elements. In order to feel like a happy and functioning human being, I require quality time in nature- and when I'm home in the Old North State, that usually means I'm wandering through the hills surrounding the Eno River or splashing like a five year old in the streams. I'm not the most time efficient hiker and I'm a very lazy swimmer- but it's all good bc I'm not in it for the accolades. The joy I feel when I'm outside is unparalleled- it's the only place where I truly feel like my most authentic self. There's no way I could try to be a #ForceOfNature on my yoga mat without a distinct connection to the true forces of nature in our universe. My strength isn't just about moving my body- it's about making a connection to the power of this earth. #sponsored @rei Photo by my love @justincookphoto
